Astra Guide ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information. By using Astra Guide you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
• Calculate your astrological birth chart, horoscopes, astrocartography maps, and compatibility reports
• Generate personalized AI-powered astrological readings based on your birth profile
• Manage your account and subscription
• Send service-related communications (e.g., account verification, important updates)
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
• Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not use your birth data or personal information for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing the App's features.

3. Birth Data — Special Handling

Your date of birth, time of birth, and city of birth are sensitive personal information. We handle this data with heightened care:

• Stored only for as long as your account is active.
• Encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption.
• Not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
• Your raw birth data is not sent to our AI provider. For AI-generated horoscopes, we derive your astrological sun sign from your birth date and send only that sign, the date, and the content category to Anthropic (see Section 5). Your birth coordinates, exact birth time, and personal identifiers are never transmitted to AI systems.
• Used only to deliver the astrological services you requested; not used to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you.

4. AI-Generated Content and Your Data

Daily horoscopes and astrological readings within Astra Guide are generated by Anthropic's Claude AI. We transmit only your astrological sun sign, the current date, and the selected content category (e.g., love, career) to generate your reading. Your birth coordinates, birth time, email address, and account identifiers are never sent to Anthropic. Location-based readings send derived planetary line data, not your raw birth coordinates. This data is governed by our data processing agreement with Anthropic. We do not permit Anthropic to use your information to train their models.

All third-party providers are bound by data processing agreements that restrict their use of your personal data to the purposes for which it was shared.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose your information:

• To service providers listed above who process data on our behalf
• If required by law, court order, or governmental authority
• To protect the rights, property, or safety of Astra Guide, our users, or others
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with advance notice to you)

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

7. Data Retention

• Active account data: retained for the life of your account.
• After account deletion: all personal data permanently and immediately deleted from our servers, except where retention is required by applicable law (e.g., financial records up to 7 years for tax compliance).
• Aggregated, de-identified analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

8. Security

We protect your data using industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption in transit, encrypted data storage, and JWT-based authentication. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no system is completely secure. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights or freedoms, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Astra Guide is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we become aware that a user is under 13, we will immediately terminate their account and delete all associated data. If you believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@astraguide.io.

10. Your Rights and Choices

All Users

• Access and correction: View and update your profile information within the App.
• Account deletion: Delete your account and all associated data directly within the App via Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
• Subscription management: Manage your subscription through Apple ID Account Settings.

California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell about you
• Delete your personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
• Correct inaccurate personal information
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (we do not sell or share PI)
• Limit the use of sensitive personal information to purposes necessary to provide the services you requested (we already limit use in this way)
• Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@astraguide.io. We will respond within 45 days. Your birth city/location (when stored as geographic coordinates) is treated as sensitive personal information under CPRA and is used solely for chart and astrocartography calculation.

EEA / UK Residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and object to processing. The legal basis for processing your personal data is:

• Contract performance: email, birth date, time, and location required to provide the astrological services you requested
• Legitimate interests: device identifiers, usage data, IP address for security and app improvement

Your data is processed and stored in the United States. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses for data transfers from the EEA/UK to the US. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@astraguide.io.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before taking effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
